She was born in Gander, Newfoundland, moved to Fredericton in 1974 where she was introduced to the sport of rowing, and now resides in Calgary. Her eight-year career as an elite rower saw her win 49 medals in singles, doubles, fours and eights competitions. Her first podium appearance was at the Canada Games in Saint John in 1985—just a year after she took up this sport! Two years later, she won three gold medals and a silver at the prestigious Henley regatta in St. Catherines. Her last, a bronze, was at the world championship in Montreal in 1992. In 1990, she and her crew-mates won the world championship in coxless fours in Tasmania,  becoming the first New Brunswicker to win a rowing world championship in 123 years!Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 6th, 1998.
