The Fredericton Rowing Club captured eight medals at the Head of 4 Bridges Regatta held over the weekend on the St. John River. Sunny skies and calm waters made for some fast times and great racing for the 114 athletes that competed from around the maritimes which included eight clubs and universities.
In the 4k race, the mixed quad of Dion Durnford, Dreama Galbraith, Barb Dugas and Kevin Lunn captured gold, tops amongst all crews. On the women’s side, Fredericton Rowing Club’s Jen Clarke took gold in the U19 women’s single while teammates Dana Durnford and Lucy Black took silver in the U19 women’s double.
In the university 2K competition, the UNB women’s eight captured gold with a crew consisting of Jessica Chouinard, Tara Gowan, Julia Hill, Caroline Grant, Cathleen Trafton, Issy Timmerman, Alyssa Wright, Kendra Schmidt and Kiera Pugh as cox.
In the novice category, FRC’s U19 men’s quad consisting of Jung Young Cho, Valdone Groza, Jarrett Oldenburg and Remi Walhain captured bronze.
In the final 2k event of the weekend, FRC’s Dugas captured gold in the master women’s single while teammate Jess Chouinard took the bronze in the senior women’s single. On the men’s side Durnford and Lunn won bronze in the master men’s double.
